Quantifying the
mundane since 2023.
Based in Leicester. Work in data. Track things compulsively. This site is where the more personal projects live.
The philosophy
Most personal data projects start with a vague intention to "understand patterns" and end up as a folder of CSVs that never get opened again. The ones that stick tend to have three things in common: a very simple daily habit (one number, every morning), a genuine question you actually want answered, and enough time to let interesting things emerge.
QuantiNerd is an attempt to do that properly. No dashboards that take 20 minutes to set up. No automated pipelines that break and go unnoticed for weeks. Just a spreadsheet, a question, and enough patience to see where it goes.
What's here
Vape Nerd
950+ days of daily puff counts. Started as curiosity, turned into an inadvertent study of habit formation and nicotine dependency. The headline finding: puff count is stubbornly resistant to changes in nicotine strength, which tells you something uncomfortable about where the dependency actually lives. Currently on 0.45mg/ml liquid — less nicotine per day than a single Nicorette mini lozenge.
Office Attendance
Manual tracking of office attendance against a 60% expectation. The data exists, the pipeline doesn't. Pending a way to automate data extraction from the desk booking system — webscraping is the likely answer, time permitting.
The stack
Deliberately simple. Data lives in Google Sheets. Analysis is a mix of R (for the original Quarto-based site) and, increasingly, conversations with Claude that turn into HTML files dropped into Netlify. This entire site rebuild was one of those.
The goal is reproducibility and low maintenance overhead, not technical sophistication.
